Navy Pier

The fountain’s primary, signature gesture, designed by James Corner Field Operations, is something like a ribbed, stone horseshoe, projecting upwards from the plaza’s surface and oriented with its open end receiving Navy Pier’s central axis. The textured form is activated by countless arching streams, radiating outward and inward, whose varied, dynamic expansions and contractions create highly energized spaces and forms for participatory entertainment. The scene is further overlaid in periodic clouds of fog, all of which are illuminated at night in theatrical color.
