American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial

This Washington DC memorial honors veterans of the American military who suffered significant disabilities while serving in conflicts. The memorial is positioned with a close, clear view of the Capitol. The competition-winning design, by Michael Vergason, incorporates a large, triangular, infinity-edged reflection pool with a formally associated star-shaped fountain. The Star Fountain presents a salutary flame fueled from underwater. The spaces around the water are enhanced by freestanding graphic glass wall artworks, a white marble architectural wall, indigenous tree plantings, and the American flag.
