Hearst Tower

A monumental glass cascade transected by diagonal escalators establishes an iconic, welcoming entrance experience for the large media headquarters. Transforming flows over the ribbed glass planks modulate the space’s acoustic character. The water is harvested at the roof as rainfall, piped to a subbasement for treatment and refrigeration, and conducted to the cascade to dehumidify the space. Architecture by Foster + Partners. The glass cascade was by James Carpenter Design Associates.
