Scottsdale Quarter, a multi-block, mixed-use urban development in Arizona, brings together retail, offices,
recreation, and a hotel. Pedestrian-friendly open spaces connect a network of plaza streets and walks,
culminating in a central open space with an interactive water feature. Strict water-conserving guidelines
limited jets to low heights. Fluidity’s response is the formation of eight evenly spaced, bundled-jet
‘columns’ across a membrane-deep pond, establishing a restrained, geometric design that belies a
hidden dynamism. The fountain’s simple and inviting environmental design, movable perimeter seating, central open space, and the unique play opportunities in the ‘columns’ all contribute to this particularly
popular regional destination.
